1 Samuel 5

Before Reading.

  • Centering prayer— Pray for illumination, “Lord, open my heart and mind by the power of the Holy Spirit,” and remain in silence.

Read 1 Samuel 5


The ark of God troubled the Philistines.

The power of the symbol of God in the ark was told in this chapter.

The ark of God was captured by the Philistines, carried away to their cities, Ebenezer, Ashdod, and to Gath.

Wherever they placed the ark of God, the power of God was showed.  It destroyed the statue of Dagon, a god of the Philistine. It brought in devastation, great panic, diseases upon them.

The people of Philistine witnessed that the power of God’s hand was very heavy upon the ark, and they decided to return it to Israel.
